You might want to explain some basic US geography to them when you get a chance. As in you are on the West coast and Hurricane Sandy is on the East Coast. Actually, that might be too complicated, maybe use an oreo cookie or a sandwich to explain it.

I just found this blog and read through each entry… I know far too many girls like this in my college dorm. I feel your pain/know how amusing it can be lol
