“Let’s get Cinco loco on Saturday!” Last year you celebrated on the 8th, this year the 7th. In two years I’ll be a proud neighbor.

I feel kind of silly for not knowing what cinco de mayo is all about. In elementary school we sang a song about it being “holiday time in Mexico” but I’m pretty sure no one in Mexico celebrates cinco de mayo… Does anyone know why it’s so special?
It’s actually the date of a battle or something in a revolution in Mexico. I’m not sure, but I think it was actually pretty insignificant, though it’s been a little over a year since I was in World History class.
“1862 – Cinco de Mayo: troops led by Ignacio Zaragoza halt a French invasion in the Battle of Puebla in Mexico.”
Thank you Wikipedia. Take it for what it’s worth.
I’ve never even heard of it before…
Since next year is a leap year, the fifth will fall on Saturday. Only one more year to wait!
Baw, I was gonna say that… :P
so was I…
I wasn’t!!! :D
i was told cinco de mayo is like mexicos 4th of july. us here in the states we use it as an excuse to get shitfaced drunk
actually, mexican independence day is in september.
down here we use australia day as an excuse to get shitfaced drunk.
actually, we use any day as excuse for that.
I always thought you used every day in Australia for eating Vegemite and emus. o_O
riding emus, thankyou very much.
I’ve never heard of this festival…what do you guys do?
I’m surprised they actually wait until saturday to celebrate…..
“Proud”, mildly less embarrassed, in one year, start counting the days.
My husband is Mexican and this morning I wished him Happy Cinco de Mayo…. he rolled his eyes: I don’t think they celebrate it that much! Also as a side note It’s been a year since I ran across Dear Girls Above Me, I feel like its my anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
At least they kinda know what day it is. And Charlie, my friends are upset that you don’t follow us on twitter.
What’s your Twitter names? How many friends are we talking about here?
http://twitter.com/lunchtimelaughs
Its a joint account that my friends and I created. I’m generally the one who posts the things but we all share the account.
lol they’re going to go to the bars asking where the specials are for Cinco de Saturday margaritas!
Baby steps.
make a video of their ‘siete de mayo’ party :)
My mom’s birthday is on cinco de mayo, so I always forget that there’s a “holiday” going on. Maybe some day I’ll just get drunk with her to celebrate.
It may come sooner than you think. Next year is leap year.
I am impressed that they know about Cinco de mayo. *clap clap*
I just realized that i’ve been reading this site for over a year. Wow!
Happy “Charlie Needs A Life” Day!
No, Charlie. You don’t need a life, because if you had a life this site wouldn’t exist!
I’m from Mexico. Here it’s just a day were people doesn’t work because we learnt the basics of french warfare: everybody beats the french.
Oh, and, it will be next year when you’ll be a proud neighbor. 2012 it’s leap year.
Except the Germans, Austrians, Italians, Spanish, and Russians.
My spanish class last year (senior year of high school), our teacher had us do some dumb little “reenactment” of the Battle of Puebla on Cinco De Mayo. It was such a facepalm moment lol.
I forgot to mention, our swords were made of cardboard and some were all bent and floppy, while our “armor” was literally paper…
I’m so living it up on a college campus right now… oh wait. It is the last class day and then we have finals; our students are going crazy working and me I’m procrastinating from procrastinating my homework. :) Thank-you Charlie!
holy cow…i’ve been reading DGAM for over a year, but tonight i was binge reading…and this just absolutely was the perfect ending! i can’t stop laughing…they sound like my old roommates! there was a reason i moved out!
Oh snap. I’m still alive, if anyone remembers me…
Cinco De Mayo? I’m Mexican, and I don’t even celebrate that….it’s celebrating the Battle of Puebla which was supposed to be some huge victory. But everyone beats the French, so it isn’t that big of a deal really…
Unless you wanna get shitfaced drunk. Then it’s the second biggest deal next to St. Patrick’s Day.
I’M BACK! Did anyone miss me?
Nope
Wow, harsh. lol
At least I’m honest, but its great you’re back.
I did.
AT LEAST CHARLIE CARES! ………and I bet no one actually realised I was gone.
Why would the American’s celebrate something Mexican…am I being stupid here because I have no idea what the hell this is about????
I would think I was turning into a DGAM if I didn’t get the joke!
Americans just use it as an excuse to drink tequila and wear sombreros. It really isn’t a big deal in Mexico.
I know some people who celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but that’s probably due to the fact that I live in the south.
Butbutbut…you posted this on the fifth..Cinco…so..how could they have said it on the 7th, if it’s not the 7th yet?
Wow >< fail on my part for not reading it all V_V
So glad you noticed.
You think they know “cinco de mayo” means the 5th of May?
“I’ve seen them at both Kroger and Walmart”…
“I understand they have very little taste. The amount of anti oxidants that they are known for depends on the process that is used to freeze dri them. Why don’t you try Monavie which combines the Acai with 18 other fruits for a great tasting drink hi…
Wow. They are celebrating Cinco de Mayo on my birthday. I feel so special =3
“I’ve seen them at both Kroger and Walmart”…“I understand they have very little taste.
Hilarious that the acai berry ad on this page used those words to start off the spam comment.
Actually, next year you’ll be proud. 2012 is leap year, so you’ll be a day ahead.
so this guy is really for real? ive read every post and im just going… “so this guy really listens to his neighbors all day?” but during the party i was really thinking “dude i’d totally come over and party to their party with you!”
